Sacha Baron Cohen stunned a star-studded audience when he 'accidentally' tripped and knocked a wheelchair-bound woman off stage on Saturday evening.
Having apparently knocked 87-year-old former child star Grace Collington – who the crowd were told had starred alongside Charlie Chaplin in City Lights – to the ground after attempting to walk like the silent star, Baron Cohen caused further hysteria with his acceptance speech.
The Borat / Dictator star was collecting the Charlie Chaplin Britannia Award for Excellence in Comedy at the LA ceremony – paid awkward tribute to the actress, saying: ’This is obviously a tragedy, but on the bright side what a great way to go – giving an award to me. Plus, she’ll probably make the Oscars In Memoriam segment.’.
He went on to issue a joking threat to the woman’s family, telling them: ‘Do not try to sue me – however if you decide to get the lawyers involved, bring it on. I will take you down just like I did to your Granny.’
