Day 29. Just 3 days to go - its been bit of a mission, but fun!
I had to include one pair of 23s as it was the last numbered Jordan. I found the 23 lows to be super comfy, and the hi’s are OK to. These are the All Star 23s, released just in time for the All Star weekend in 2008.
The side story to this pair is a bit roundabout but let me start by having a bit of bitch about the whole thing. The fact of the matter is that I’m a hardcore Jordan collector - I do my best to pick up as much as I can. I knew that the 23 was going to be the last of the numbered series so I saved my pennies up anticipating their release. What transpired was that on the 23rd anniversary of the shoes I love so much - they became unget-table (I realise that’s not a word).
It started with the super rare Titaniums (318474-151), then this limted All Star version, and then the UNCs (318376-041) and the Chicagos (318474-061). Now I get the idea behind quickstrikes and limited numbers, I really do and like it to an extent - but this was the LAST numbered Jordan, and then Jordan brand only releases 9 colourways, and four of those are virtually unobtainable. To me that makes no sense at all. This is the last one and I can’t get them? Believe me I tried - Matt Yan even had people at the front of the line outside a shop in London and he stilled missed out on Titaniums (how the fuck does that happen? Tut tut).
In any case, the first pair I finally got was the black version (318376-001) after watching the world go nuts over the Titaniums, so unfair. In any case I got four of the colours, but the ones I really wanted (esp the UNC and Chicago ones) are issues that are difficult to own and now real expensive…it sucks.
In any case, in 2008 me and my good mate Kirk Harding had a joint birthday party in Auckland (hes a BK NY resident) and while he was here he must have heard my incessant bitching about missing out on the Titanium and All Star 23s, cos a few weeks later a courier bag turned up on my desk with these in it. I remember saying thanks a few times when I got them, but thanks again Kirk 
So yeah, I REALLY love these 23s, dope colourway and clever use of the Jordan signature into the design of the shoes.
Sorry if this has come across as a bitching session (Gentry, sorry dude) - I do love them, it’s just as a long term collector I thought I deserved to have access to all the 23s, and it just didn’t happen…ah well.
I’ll be back tomorrow to take it way back and then on New Years eve I’ll get the big guns out to finish the month off (I’m sure a few of you can guess what they are
